Cruise Description 6 Night Cruise sailing from Genoa to Athens aboard Crystal Symphony.

Explore Italy out of season on this cruise. Enjoy the country at its most peaceful, when the tourists have gone home and the locals go about their daily lives. Departing from Genova, you’ll sail first to two days in Livorno, a lovely port in its own right but also the gateway to Tuscany, Florence, and Pisa. Work up an appetite next in Naples and enjoy some of the city’s famous pizza. Beautiful Messina, “the door of Sicily,” is next, followed by a relaxing sea day. Disembark in Athens.

Highlights of this cruise:

Genoa
Christopher Columbus hailed from Genoa "the Proud," which enjoys one of the longest and most illustrious maritime histories in all of Italy. Even today it is the country`s foremost port, whose five separate bays are alive with shipping. The marvels continue ashore: Genoa has the largest medieval city center in Europe, and Renaissance palaces that once enthralled Rubens and Van Dyck.

Livorno
Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo made their marks of genius here. This cradle of the Renaissance owes its UNESCO status to the overwhelming influence the city and its museums, churches, architecture and artworks have had on Europe and, ultimately, the world. Vestiges of this enlightened period are everywhere today – at the Uffizi gallery, the Palazzos Pitta and Vecchio and throughout the city streets.

Athens
Experience the vibrant and historic port of Piraeus, Athens' gateway to the Aegean islands and beyond, and find a rich maritime heritage, a bustling local culture, and access to the wonders of Athens. Venture through Greece’s largest port city, Piraeus, as you make your way to the cradle of Western culture and the birthplace of democracy. Athens, among the world's oldest cities with a history spanning 3,400 years, has long been the location of myth and muse, and its ancient heritage is still an incredible source of inspiration. Here, the Acropolis crowns the city as home to the Parthenon and other legendary temples and monuments.
