Cruise Description |
6 Night Cruise sailing from Inverness to Oban aboard Lord of the Highlands.
Join Lord of the Highlands to transit Telford’s remarkable Caledonian Canal through the dramatic Highland scenery of the Great Glen. Onwards to discover the delights of Mull and Iona and sail into Oban, the Gateway to the Isles, on this delightful spring getaway.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Inverness - Embarkation.
Day 2: Inverness – Culloden and Clava Cairns. Sail Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal to Fort Augustus.
Embark in Inverness, where the infamous battlefield of Culloden is haunted with the souls of fallen warriors of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite forces, which were defeated in 1746. We set sail at lunchtime along the Caledonian Canal, built between 1803 and 1822 to connect the Great Glen’s four lochs, and ascend the impressive series of locks which runs through Fort Augustus.
Day 3: Sail the Caledonian Canal to Banavie and descend Neptune’s Staircase. Corpach – Glenfinnan Monument Visitor Centre.
Continuing along the canal, we ascend to the highest point at Loch Oich and glide serenely through the picturesque tree-lined Laggan Avenue, before reaching Neptune’s Staircase. Overlooked by the magnificent Ben Nevis, this amazing feat of engineering descends the canal over 19 metres and is the longest lock staircase in Scotland.
At Glenfinnan we visit the iconic monument honouring the fallen Jacobite clansmen, framed by spectacular Highland scenery.
Day 4: Sail Loch Linnhe and the Sound of Mull to Tobermory. Tobermory, Mull – Free time to explore at leisure.
Sail Loch Linnhe and cruise into open sea to the colourful harbour town of Tobermory on Mull.
Day 5: Craignure, Mull – Visit to Iona.
On Iona, the tranquility of the restored Benedictine Abbey awaits.
Day 6: Craignure, Mull – Duart Castle. Oban – Walking tour and McCaig’s Tower.
Day 7: Oban - Disembarkation. |
